Summer a--hole
I don't mean this to be too personal . . . but don't you feel like you're missing out by not having gone to an Ivy League school? I mean when I interview, its like they already know I have the smarts, they just want to see if I'm a good fit. I'll bet its different for you. Like do they quiz you?
What I should have said: Hey asshole, look around. We've got the same summer job, same salary. So blow it out your ass.
What I did say: At least I won't be crippled with student loan debt and have the freedom to pursue the legal career of my choice . . . whatever that may be.

15 little fish:
Hey... you don't have to tell it like it is.
What a top tier little sh*t. Or big one.
Guess the admissions dean doesn't test for personality at said Ivy League school.
Clearly they don't learn any social skills there either.
I loved your answer, though - both of them!
Oh my. Good response. Hope he thinks twice before he tries something like that again!
I think my response would have been something to the effect of, "Actually it's nice to have enough confidence in my ability that I don't have to attend a school an over-priced school with a few cool people and a bunch of social-climbing wannabes who have little more going for them than the name of their school."
They just don't get it. Some of us DON'T want to be there.
What a jerk.
It's scary to think that people can be so ignorant and rude! *sigh* What a shame but GREAT ANSWER! :)
Don't get me started on how overrated Ivy League schools are and the horrible things they do to the people that go to them. The ONLY Ivy League school I'd consider a genuinely good undergraduate school is Princeton, and that's only because they explicitly focus on undergrad and not a myriad of professional schools.
Unfortunately, too many people put a lot of stock in perception and not substance.
And yes, this person clearly doesn't have the social skills necessary to be successful in the long run. That sort of condescending attitude is going to bite this person in the ass, even if it's unintentional.
That is unbelievable. I would not have been as gracious as you.
Sorry! I feel your pain- I spend 9 months with people like that. The sad thing is the majority of students at my school have rich parents and don't take out loans. Hence, the social skills issue.
This week I had an attorney ask me, in front of another summer, how I got into my law school from my college. That one hurt.
To Mel Woods: I would have answered, "Because I am totally fucking awesome."
That kid is just overflowing with tact.
I'm just jealous that by not going to a top-tier school, you got less than top-tier debt. I ended up with not-top-tier school AND massive loads of debt.
Damn.
Yeah, I was going to agree with zuska there - lower tier school doesn't always mean less debt. :(
Great responses, though!
"Do they quiz you?" You have got to be kidding me. What an ass.
