Footwear
Let me set the record straight on Crocs for those who were not already aware of these facts: Crocs are ugly. Crocs are stupid-looking. Crocs remind me of all that is frumpy in this world. I never wanted to own a pair so I could continue to look down upon those that wore them.
When tried on my husband's Crocs, it was just to run out to the mailbox on a wet day. I swear.
I now own a pair of Crocs. Light blue, a sort-of-neutral that goes with most of my casual wear.
They are super-comfy and apparently appropriate summer footwear for anyplace but work.
And I love them.

I apparently sign onto footwear fads late. Recall the recent discovery of Uggs.

10 little fish:
I too despised crocs (especially after they were the sole topic of my IP exam in the fall)... and then I tried on my mom's crocs flip flops.
I now own a pair in white/light blue. As flip flops it is less noticable that they are crocs.... but I'm still super self-concious about it. *hangs head in shame*
I, too, own SEVERAL pairs of the flip flops. In all black they don't even look Croc-ish.
In the winter I wear the fugly ones in black . . . the mammoth kind with the furries on the inside.
*joins in hanging head in shame*
Yes, these stories sound all to familiar. I still cant bring myself to wear my crocs out in "real" public but I love wearing them for quick trips to the store, etc. Also the best shoes ever for preggos!
I'm with you on the ugly. And the mocking of the trend. But after many outtings to the park where there is a sprinkler play area and having my daughter's friends not stop running from dry to wet and my daughter coming over to get her shoes on an off a million times, I broke down and got some for her. And marvelled at their weight (or lack thereof. So then I got a pair. I don't where them out and about usually. Just gardening to the park etc.
"Anyplace but work" = the places I go... the park, the store, the children's museum, playdates.
If I were going out to dinner someplace more upscale than the local kid-friendly restaurant, I would bust out the strappy sandals.
Last weekend, I wore them to a birthday party for a four year old. One of the moms standing in our circle commented that we were ALL wearing crocs.
*multiple shame-gasms*
I have them too. We don't even bother calling them Crocs here. If I happen to have one of my kids grab my shoes they know exactly what I mean when I say I want my "ugly shoes." Yes. I wear them in public. I wear them to school. I wear them to the grocery store. I even wore them to church one Saturday night service.
*joining the walk of shame*
I love my crocs in all their glory so no need to hang my head in shame :) They may look ridiculous, but they are so comfortable I just don't care :-) (besides I can't wear Uggs year round, they just don't work when it's 90 degrees outside)
Having never set foot in a pair, I will stand back and continue to mock you all in ignorant self-righteous bliss. LOL! Ugly, ugly, ugly!
I also officially *hate* crocs.
But I adore my cream pair with the fuzzy fake eskimo lining that I wore all winter- in my own home only, I do have my standards!
(Although I saw those croc flip flops the other day and I agree with tranny head, in black you wouldn't even be able to tell, my standards could be revised a little for those)
One day, a couple of months post-partum, I forgot to take my crocs off before I went to the courthouse - I went into the judge's chambers, and it was only on my way out (motion thankfully granted) that I noticed. Oops.
