I start my new life as a "lawyer" on Friday.
I got a haircut and manicure.
I plan to treat myself to some new makeup.
I bought a few pairs of new comfy pumps and a few updated tops to go under my suits (sale!).
I bought a new handbag. (Nine West outlet on sale! Awesome, green and big enough to hold a legal sized padfolio! *girl-who-carried-a-man's-backpack-for-three-law-school-years-squee*)
On Wednesday, I have to arrange for Clownfish "before school" care for the year at his new school because I have to be in the office before his teachers do.
I have a dentist appointment today and have to finish cleaning and organizing my closets.
I have a really long 'to do before work starts' list.
The timing works out well . . . it is kind of like going back to school at the end of the summer. Except, you know, with a paycheck.

ReplyDeleteIf you're open to disclosing- what general area of law will you be working in? Best of luck and yay about the haircut, manicure and makeup. The last manicure I got was a few days before I started working -- one year ago. Maybe I should make it an annual thing :)

I bet it must be so exciting! I can't wait to start work in some ways- all the new things like desks and computers and CLOTHES! But I also dread it in other ways.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of tops do you wear under a suit? This is the hardest wardrobe puzzle for me. I have aa hard time because I want to be conservative enough but I also want to keep to my personality and not look too manly! any tips? You should post pictures of your work outfits!!

ReplyDeleteCee -- I also struggle with the shirt thing. I have a few collared blouses that I will wear on court days under my suits.
The other days I am hoping I can get by with more personality -- coordinated skirts and suit jacket with less formal tops. (Like for day one of training, since we're not going to be in court, I may wear a camel jacket and chocolate skirt with a dark pink top.)
For example, Lane Bryant had some nice light short sleeve cotton crew-neck tops with a little neckline silver embellishment (no online pics I could find).
Maybe I will consider posting me wearing some outfits... I am seriously overweight so maybe I can get some help/suggestions for looking good and not like a frump-a-lump...

Awesome. Haircut, manicure, makeup, new clothes AND a paycheck? Now that is the life I am looking forward to! Seriously, congrats on the clerkship.
ReplyDeleteTalbots has some surprisingly decent plus-size stuff. I wear women's pants a lot because I have ridiculously wide hips and their stuff is decent. They also have great sales online.
ReplyDeleteI wear a lot of shells or frillier blouses under my suits, and will occasionally wear a brightly colored solid fitted tee.
