Breaking blog silence because I have sad news.
A comment on Useless Dicta's blog indicates that she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly back in February. See the comment on this post.
She was part of a small cadre of law school bloggers who have been around since 2006. I am not "Facebook friends in real life" with her, so I just have no way of knowing if the comment is true. Yet, when you read it, I am sure you will believe it is genuine. I do.
She became a better blogger after law school, unlike most of us who get less interesting and more guarded. Her last few posts show she was a woman on her way -- she had landed her dream legal job as a prosecutor and seemed happy in her work. She had a new place to live, grown up furniture, tales of courtroom hilarity, and a 'its complicated' relationship with a boy. I was looking forward to seeing where the upcoming year would take her. She was an open and charming writer, she had a great outlook, and I smiled whenever I saw she had a new post.
Useless Dicta, this is not much of a farewell... I really lack the words... but you will be missed.
Oh my gosh, that's so sad! Thank you for coming out of hiding to let all of us know Butterflyfish! Will keep her family in my prayers.
ReplyDeletethis is such a shock. i've been reading her blog for years, and always really enjoyed it. i can't believe she's gone!
ReplyDeleteWow...that's so sad! I'd been wondering about her recently...
ReplyDeleteThat's so terrible. I didn't read her blog, but now I wish I had. It's a funny thing about blogs, people don't really know you in "real life" but in a way you feel like you know people. The only reason I came back out of hiding after so long is because I bet people wondered what happened to me.
ReplyDeleteWow. I had found her blawg through your blawg or one of the others to which you link. I read her last post the day she wrote it, and then went through her archives. My brother-in-law committed suicide in October and while planning the tribute book to hand out at the service I was able to delve into what turned out to be a hugely popular online persona and learn how he had impacted people's lives IRL, through his virtual self. I am sure it is the same for Useless. What a tragedy for her loved ones, I hope she is at peace.
ReplyDeleteSad! I've actually thought about what to do if something ever happened to me. At some time there was some blogger-friend-tree-chain-of-command/whatever but that sort of fell apart.
ReplyDeleteSoooo horrible. :( She was so young! Thank you for telling us.
